Sydney Craft Week Ceramic Business District: market and clay workshop details

The Ceramic Business District at City of Sydney Creative Studios is a free market on Saturday 10 October 2026, 10am–2pm, at 119 Bathurst Street, Sydney. Its listing says registration for the market is optional. A separate Brand X clay workshop runs 1pm–3:30pm at the same venue; general access is listed at $25 and Artist Pass holders enter free. The workshop is experimental clay play, and the organiser says participants will not make a raw or kiln-fired item to take home.

Do not treat the market and workshop as one booking

  • Market: Saturday 10 October, 10am–2pm; free; registration optional. The City event page places it in the foyer and on level 2 of City of Sydney Creative Studios, 119 Bathurst Street.
  • Workshop: Saturday 10 October, 1pm–3:30pm; general access $25; free for Artist Pass holders. It is led by artist Wong Ching Yee (Jenny) and has a separate booking link.
  • Venue: City of Sydney Creative Studios, 119 Bathurst Street, Sydney NSW 2000. Check the event page for the specific entry and room instructions.

The market and workshop overlap from 1pm to 2pm. A visitor can browse the market during that period only if doing so does not conflict with their workshop arrival or participation. The source pages do not provide a timetable for moving between the market areas and the workshop room, so do not assume that a workshop ticket includes a guided market tour or a reserved place at a market stall.

What the clay session promises—and does not

Brand X describes the workshop as an introduction to clay and hand-building. The listed techniques are pinching, coiling and slab building. The event page says the session concludes with an invitation to contribute to a collaborative, site-responsive, ephemeral installation.

The organiser explicitly calls it experimental clay play and says there will be no raw or kiln-fired products to take home. This is a useful distinction for anyone expecting a finished pot: the published outcome is participation in the process and a temporary collaborative installation, not a fired object. We have not attended the session or tested its materials.

Cost, access and ticket questions

The event page lists general admission at $25 and Artist Pass holders as free. It also describes community tickets for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people experiencing financial hardship, subject to availability; the organiser’s instruction is to contact Brand X, and the page says tickets may be unavailable if sold out. These statements describe the published offer, not the live inventory at the time you read this.

Brand X asks people with access requirements to include them during booking and says companion-card tickets are included in that process. The page gives an accessibility contact route. Confirm any specific access arrangement with Brand X before relying on it for your visit.

A practical decision path

  1. If you only want to browse ceramics, the market is the relevant listing: it is free, registration is optional and its published window is 10am–2pm.
  2. If you want guided hands-on clay activity, use the separate workshop page and check its ticket and access conditions. The listed session is 1pm–3:30pm.
  3. If you expect to take a finished piece home, this workshop is not described as offering one. Choose another event only after checking that event’s own published outcome.
  4. Recheck the official pages on 10 October for changes, ticket availability or entry instructions.

This is a source-based planning note, not a review of the event, the artist or the market’s products. For another current Sydney Craft Week listing with different access conditions, see our Sydney Sculpture Walk context guide.
